The listing of this campsite in the CC book is incorrect. It is not in a small fishing village, and the entry is misleading. The toilets and showers are dirty and need much more managing. There are signs of vandalism. Cleaning once a day is insufficient and the place is overcrowded, noisy and needs some better control. Staff are pleasant enough and there is a little shop on site. Pitches are small, dusty and cramped. Sadly not recommended.
We stayed here for two nights, quiet and rest, after a few busy days in Porto. As other reviews state, the pitches are very busy...you are shoehorned into a space! But we didn’t mind that. We were near the back of the site and used the renovated shower block which was superb. The shop is well stocked and the staff very friendly and helpful. They have a range of products with fresh bread daily. You get a token for a complimentary port wine drink on arrival. The bar is nice, with great staff. I recommend the “green wine”...fizzy white! The area out-with the campsite is lovely. Near fishing villages where the fish are brought up from the boats for sale in the mornings. Lovely walks or cycles along the long boardwalk. We didn’t suffer from dogs barking as in previous reviews...no more than on normal sites in Portugal where you can hear a dog or two nearby. Nothing to annoy us. It suited us ideally for a quiet catch up and stop over. I wouldn’t like to have stayed here eg a week as you were very close to other campervan etc.
its been a long time since this was a charming fishing village as most of it is now newish apartments but the harbour area itself is well worth a visit (left out of the campsite and down to the coast).
The Portuguese obviously have something about toilet seats and toilet paper as there was none in either block.
The touring pitches are not marked out and so I can imagine in the high season it would be crammed in like sardines, it was tight enough when we went in mid April.
The location of this campsite is rather strange being in the middle of a residential area with the associated dog barking etc. However the sandy beach is only a short walk away and more than compensates for this. The pitches are mainly grass but not marked out which results in just finding a large enough space for your unit and wedging yourself in. This in turn can put you very close to neighbours. There is nowhere on the site for dog walking so first thing in the morning and last thing at night routines are a bit problematic for dog owners. The facilities are adequate - there is an old toilet/shower block near the reception and a newer block at the back of the site. Water is moderately warm. The on-site bar is great and serves one of the best G&Ts I've ever had. There is a very good selection of Ports to try, all at reasonable prices. As for the staff, I have to make special mention of Tiago who proved to be the most helpful chap you could hope to meet. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he made this a very pleasant stay although I'm not sure, given the location, we would return in a hurry.
We arrived on 6/11/17 via cobbled road surface. Although the staff are very friendly, pitches are small & I would not like to be here when it’s full in the summer as they are too close. The toilet blocks are not great the shower this morning was dirty as there is no mop to clean down after use. No toilet seats, lids or toilet paper. We are on a pitch away from the area where all the campers have been placed which is good for us, however the worst thing about this site is during the afternoon & all evening till about 10:30pm a dog is continuously barking. We have stuck it out for 2 nights but cannot tolerate the noise any longer. Sadly this site is in need of some investment & I will not be returning.
On the plus side there is good access to Porto via taxi &metro. Very easy journey. The beach looks good & there is a boardwalk to cycle or walk to the vila do Conde but we are now not doing this as we are moving on. Shame really we were looking forward to looking around the area.
Staff helped us find a pitch, as site was nearly full, for our 8m caravan. Facilities were all fine. Nice beach nearby and a boardwalk along the coast both ways.
Shopping complex nearby, just about walkable if not too hot.
One of the better sites along this coast.
We stayed at the site to visit Oporto. Handy bus stop 2 minutes from site with regular buses. We parked under the the trees and the site was not too busy so we weren't very close to other vans. Toilet facilities were very clean and staff helpful. We didn't use the pool but it looked very good.
We are travelling through Europe for 6 months so have stayed at a lot of sites, and this is the worse we have stayed at.We ignored previous reviews and that was a mistake, there are no pitches so you are told where to park and we could barely open the door, it is rammed you might as well stay in a car park, the shower system is ridiculous,we feel that the site is greedy and that is why you are rammed in like sardines we stayed one night and left at the first opportunity.
I spent nearly a week here in a tent at the end of February/beginning of May. I was hoping for somewhere warmer and sunnier than London at that time of year but timed it wrong - it was rainy and windy, though a little warmer. The pitch was amazingly cheap . It wasn't much - a patch of ground by a fence, in one of the few areas not taken up by motor homes - but for that price I'm not inclined to be fussy. Everything I had read in previous reviews was true - the 7 minute button activated hot water for the showers, hot washing up water only twice a day, missing toilet seats, most of the site being dedicated to year-round caravans that have seen better days, but also amazingly friendly staff, great restaurants nearby, easy metro trip into Porto, and miles of the most beautiful coastline right on your doorstep. My last night there a beast of a storm came through and blew over my awning and soaked me, so I moved to a very comfortable bungalow which they gave me a discount on. I honestly enjoyed my time here immensely, and I've paid higher fees for much more basic sights. Go without super high expectations (save them for the scenery and surrounding area) and I'm sure you'll have a great stay too.
Fabulous, friendly campsite. We arrived with a tent and decided to take a bungalow instead. It was too reasonable to pass up. We also had the option of a caravan which would have been cheaper. The bungalow had its own bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms.
The bar fella was so helpful, we skipped port tasting in Porto and just sampled the different ones at the bar, far cheaper. The market on site sells the good ports.
The owner of the campground made special reservations for us at a local fish house. She went out of her way to make us feel extremely welcome.
We walked the beach each day, it was lovely; sandy, rolling waves, rocks. Board walk goes each direction for quite a ways.
This is a gem, don't pass it up.
